I’m working on these flowers for Portland Community College’s upcoming production of Much Ado About Nothing. They will be used for the costumes and bouquet in the wedding scene.
To make them, start with strips of silk, tulle, or lace.
Cut triangles out of the fabric, leaving a solid strip on one end. Create an anchor stitch then start running a slip stitch from one end, bunching and leaving another anchor stitch every few inches.
Spiral the bunched strip, sewing into a point which forms the back of the flower. Voila! Experiment with strip length and placement to create variation.
